DPO Outreach for Greater Inclusiveness

This is a three-year project funded by USAID that was launched in October 2008 and extended in November 2009. The project is being implemented in Yerevan, Gyumri, Alaverdi, Stepanavan and has covered Kapan, and Sisian regions since January 2010. The goal of the project is to strengthen the community social safety net in order to promote inclusion of children and adults with disabilities in society with a focus on inclusive education.

World Vision has worked to increase the capacity of 6 partner DPOs (Disable People Organizations) in cooperation with state and non-state stakeholders and key players in education sector. This includes building organizational and networking skills of DPOs for a collaborative decision-making process with local authorities and donor organizations that support children with special needs.

The trained DPOs conducted Disability mainstreaming trainings in 37 schools and 30 preschool education institutions.  The project supported establishment of a website for Disability National Commission (www.disabilityarmenia.am) that brings together all active NGOs/DPOs and supports coordinated cooperation.

The project also aims to support the development of a National Strategy Paper on Inclusive Education implementation in Armenia.

Almost 38 children with disabilities have already joined mainstream education since the start of the project There is an evidence of a positive mind-change in target communities as a result of active trainings and learning activities conducted by partner DPOs.
