Area Development Programs (ADPs) are multi-sectoral programs that focus on well-being of children, and entail 15 years’ commitment to communities. ADPs are predominantly funded through child sponsorship. ADPs are focused on encouraging community participation and ownership in addressing the needs of the most marginalized and vulnerable groups. The projects implemented with the active involvement of communities aim to improve the level of food security and nutrition, ensure access to education and healthcare for children, promote their spiritual development, rehabilitation of living conditions and infrastructure in communities, and income generation.

In 2003 World Vision started Kapan ADP in the South of the remote and mountainous Syunik region, where the difficult economic situation was aggravated by the armed conflict with neighboring Azerbaijan over Nagorno Karabakh issue, and blockade of the main transport links. Many factories and plants were closed leaving thousands of people unemployed virtually with no means to support their families.
Kapan ADP aims to contribute to the formation of an integrated and prosperous civil society through development of community potential thus helping improve the well-being of vulnerable children and their families.
Along with the activities focusing on children’s health, education, and spiritual values the ADP implements community-initiated projects including renovation of schools, kindergartens, playrooms, recreational areas and village clubs.
