Talin Area Development Programme

Area Development Programs (ADPs) are multi-sectoral programs that focus on well-being of children, and entail 15 years’ commitment to communities. ADPs are predominantly funded through child sponsorship. ADPs are focused on encouraging community participation and ownership in addressing the needs of the most marginalized and vulnerable groups. The projects implemented with the active involvement of communities aim to improve the level of food security and nutrition, ensure access to education and healthcare for children, promote their spiritual development, rehabilitation of living conditions and infrastructure in communities, and income generation.

Located at 2,300 meters above sea level, Talin region is known for extremely cold and long winters as well as heavy snowfalls that cut off remote villages for several weeks. Agriculture is the main source of income for families, although the harsh climate, infertile land, and lack of irrigation water make farming very difficult and unproductive.

Talin ADP began its activities in August 2005. Today there are 26 communities included in the ADP area. Talin ADP aims to contribute to the creation of self-sustainable communities, promoting shared spiritual values and practicing their rights and responsibilities for ensuring continuous improvement of the quality of life.

Water system rehabilitation project

Five communities of Talin ADP were chosen for the implementation of the Water System Rehabilitation project since the deteriorated drinking and irrigation water system was identified by people as the most urgent need. The project aims to contribute to the significant increase of the irrigation water quantity, and at the same time provide communities with adequate amount of pure drinking water.

In 2010 drinking water systems were already rehabilitated in 5 communities (Suser, Nor Artik, Vosketas, Karmrashen and Katnaghbyur). Significant input of the local stakeholders allowed increasing the project's impact: approximately 15 000 USD was collected from the different sources (other NGOs, government agencies, etc.) through advocacy activities.
